It's been a strange month. I've only upped a few mixes and, as a result, the downloads weren't even in treble figures till a few days ago when my DJ Shadow Mix was posted on the Solesides website. I really need to start spreading the word about my site. If only I wasn't so bloody lazy!!! This will probably be the last mix of the month. It's a tribute to one of the oldest of old school hip hop labels - Sugar Hill Records. It's first release, Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight", came out in 1979. It sampled the bass line from Chic's "Good Times" which led to the label being sued. It wasn't the only lawsuit filled against the label in it's all too brief existence. Even Grandmaster Flash sued. This, along with contract disputes, caused many of the artists to leave and the label folded in 1986. A short but sweet experience then. 20 plus years on, some of the rhymes may sound a little dated (I guess the star sign thing worked with the ladies at the time) and I never could work out why having butter on your toast was bragging or being boastful, but the label gave us some true classics and I think it's fair to say the world of hip hop would have turned out differently without it. The first Sugar Hill track I heard was as a 10 year old back in 1984. My dad had a C90 he used to play in the car with Kreftwerk's "Autobahn" on one side and various other songs, including "White Lines", on the other. So you can thank my old man for this mix. Enjoy. 01 - It's Nasty (Genius of Love) - Grandmaster Flash & Furious Five 02 - The Message - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 03 - Step Off - The Furious Five 04 - The Down Beat - Sugarhill Gang 05 - Yes We Can-Can - Treacherous Three 06 - Vice - Grandmaster Melle Mel 07 - Sing A Simple Song - West Street Mob 08 - All Night Long (Waterbed) - Kevie Kev (Waterbed Kev) 09 - Hey Fellas - Trouble Funk 10 - We Are Known As Emcees (We Turn Party's Out) - Crash Crew 11 - Making Cash Money - Busy Bee 12 - Funk You Up - The Sequence 13 - XMas Rap - Treacherous Three 14 - Outta Control - Miracle Mike & The Ladies Of The 80's 15 - 8th Wonder - The Sugarhill Gang 16 - That's The Joint - Funky 4 + 1 17 - The Birthday Party - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 18 - Freedom - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 19 - Rapper's Delight (Long Version) - Sugarhill Gang 20 - The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel - Grandmaster Flash 21 - The Word Is Out - Sugarhill Gang 22 - People Get On Up - Positive Force 23 - Break Dance-Electric Boogie - West Street Mob 24 - Rapper's Reprise (Jam-Jam) - Sugarhill Gang 25 - Ooh Baby (Short Version) - West Street Mob 26 - Let's Dance (Make Your Body Move) - West Street Mob 27 - Apache - Sugar Hill Gang 28 - White Lines (Don't Don't Do It) - Grandmaster & Melle Mel 29 - Scorpio - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five 30 - Message II (Survival) - Melle Mel & Duke Bootee 31 - We Don't Work For Free - Grandmaster Melle Mel & The Furious Five

AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! More router problems: no wireless connection, dropped lines halfway through an upload. It's doing my head in. If BT ever offer you a Home Hub, tell them to stick it up their arse!!! This mix should have been upped right after my DJ Shadow Mix. Anyway ... On my travels round the net I stumbled on an old school electro mix by a guy called Bamboo. Check it out at Def Momentum's blog. It made me want to do my own electro mix, which I kinda haven't done as I wouldn't really class all these tracks as electro (hence the mix name) and "Walking On Sunshine" wouldn't have sounded out of place on my Classic House Mix, but they're all from the early 80s and it all comes together in another awesome Dunfyboy mix. (Nothing wrong with a bit of shameless self-promotion, right?) There's about a dozen or so songs that feature on both Bamboo's and my own mixes, but I'd still recommend downloading both mixes (mine first, obviously :-) Anyway, here it is. Enjoy. 01 - Boogie Down (Bronx) - Man Parrish 02 - I'm The Packman (Eat Everything I Can) - The Packman 03 - One For The Treble - Davy DMX 04 - Freaks Come Out At Night - Whodini 05 - Haunted House Of Rock - Whodini 06 - More Bounce To The Ounce - Zapp 07 - Friends - Whodini 08 - Magic's Wand - Whodini 09 - Rockit - Herbie Hancock 10 - Play That Beat Mr DJ - G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid 11 - Rapper's Delight - The Sugarhill Gang 12 - Jam On It - Newcleus 13 - Walking On Sunshine - Rockers Revenge ft Donnie Calvin 14 - He's Got The Beat - Whiz Kid 15 - Let The Music Play - Shannon 16 - (Hey You) The Rock Steady Crew - Rock Steady Crew 17 - White Lines (Don't Do It) - Grandmaster & Melle Mel 18 - Axel F - Harold Faltermeyer 19 - My Hands Are Quicker Than The Eye - Byron Davis & The Fresh Krew 20 - Breaker's Revenge - Arthur Baker 21 - Looking For The Perfect Beat - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force 22 - Sticky Situation - Tyrone Brunson 23 - The Smurf - Tyrone Brunson 24 - Hip Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop) - Man Parrish 25 - Electricity - Midnight Star 26 - Lookout Weekend - Debbie Deb 27 - Space Is The Place - Newcleus 28 - We Rock The House - Royal Velour & Double O 29 - Don't Stop The Rock - Freestyle 30 - Clear - Cybotron 31 - It's Automatic - Freestyle 32 - Planet Rock - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force 33 - Play At Your Own Risk - Planet Patrol PS - Don't worry if you think there should've been more from the Sugar Hill label. That's next.

Well, it's been a while, hasn't it? When I posted my Nightshift Mix back in April I mentioned it was intended to be a DJ Shadow mix. It started of well but after just 3 tracks DJ Vadim crept in, then Hexstatic, then Depth Charge. You get the idea. So, here, at last, is my DJ Shadow mix. This mix has a bit of everything - early Mo' Wax head-nodders from "Entroducing" and "Preemtive Strike", more rap (& guitar?!?) orientated stuff from "The Private Press" and "The Outsider" and, of course, a tune or three from his collabaration with James Lavelle on UNKLE's "Psyence Fiction " . There's the dance-floor friendly remix of "Six Days" from Soulwax and Shadow's own remix of Eric B & Rakim's "Let The Rhythm Hit Em". Even Shadow's live version of "Organ Donor" from "Live! In Tune And On Time". Enjoy. I know you will. 01 - Building Steam With a Grain of Salt 02 - Midnight in a Perfect World 03 - Midnight in A Perfect World (Gab Mix) 04 - Six Days 05 - Mashin' On The Motorway 06 - Walkie Talkie (Extended Radio Edit) 07 - Six Days (Remix) 08 - Lonely Soul 09 - Guns Blazing - Drums Of Death Part 1 10 - Entropy B - Count and Estimate 11 - This Time 12 - Entropy A - The Third Decade, Our Move 13 - 3 Freaks 14 - Six Days (Soulwax Mix) 15 - Enuff 16 - The Number Song (Cut Chemist Party Mix) 17 - ...Meets His Maker 18 - Stem (Cops 'n' Robbers Mix) 19 - Organ Donor 20 - Let The Rhythm Hit Em (DJ Shadow Rmx) 21 - Organ Donor (Live) 22 - Organ Donor (Extended Overhaul) 23 - Blood on the Motorway 24 - GDMFSOB (U.N.K.L.E. Uncensored) 25 - High Noon 26 - Main Title Theme 27 - Backstage Girl 28 - Broken Levee Blues 29 - You Made It PS - you may have noticed the tracker over on the left. I'm not bothered about the numbers of visitors, I just wanted to see where in the world you were all from. I've had visitors from east and west Europe, north & south America, Africa, the Far East and Australia. I think that's pretty much everywhere :) Keep spreading the word! PPS - Good to see lots of traffic from www.solesides.com - be sure to check out my other mixes. Over 50 mixes, all different styles so there's bound to be something for you.

The most important band in the history of hip hop? Yeah, probably. Maybe even one of the most important bands ever. Public Enemy have been going for over 20 years now and along the way they've released some of the best rap songs you could hope to hear. Although their later rhymes may not have the impact of their earlier stuff this mix does have the odd recent tune in it. Most of the tunes though come from their first four albums: Yo! Bum Rush The Show, It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, Fear Of A Black Planet and Apocalypse 91-The Enemy Strikes Black. These albums are my favourites, maybe because I first heard them as a nipper, maybe because they've been sampled on so many other records that I bought. Who knows? If you want to check out PE, get these 4 first. I've seen them live twice and if you get a chance, I'd recommend it. Anyway, enjoy. And remember, if you've time to download the mix, you've time to tell me what you think of it. 01 - Public Enemy No. 1 02 - Grand Theft Oil 03 - Terminator X To The Edge Of Panic 04 - Prophets Of Rage 05 - Louder Than A Bomb 06 - Get the F*** Outta Dodge 07 - I Don't Wanna Be Called Yo Nigga 08 - Shut 'Em Down 09 - The Enemy Battle Hymn Of The Public 10 - Give It Up 11 - He Got Game 12 - Rebel Without A Pause 13 - She Watch Channel Zero?! 14 - Don't Believe The Hype 15 - Mind Terrorist 16 - Who's Your Hero? 17 - Gotta Do What I Gotta Do 18 - Fear Of A Black Planet 19 - You're Gonna Get Yours 20 - 911 Is A Joke 21 - A Letter to the New York Post 22 - Nighttrain 23 - Fight The Power 24 - MKLVFKWR 25 - Party For Your Right To Fight 26 - Cold Lampin' With Flavor 27 - Rightstarter (Message To A Black Man) 28 - Bring The Noise 29 - Race Against Time 30 - Burn Hollywood Burn 31 - Caught, Can We Get A Witness? 32 - Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya Man 33 - Power To The People 34 - Bring The Noise [with Anthrax] Might do a Jungle Brothers mix next, but I'm kinda all hip hopped out :)
